I am inclined to build a complete Stroker Poly for his ‘65 and swap him
straight across just for the pleasure of seeing him REALLY trounce the Porsches,
WRX’s, Mustangs, and Mercedes;
390", 12 to 1 compression, 304F circle track cam ( [email protected]”), my spare ported Poly heads [email protected]”cfm @ .500” lift with 2.05/1.60” 11/32”
valves and my Dick Landy built aluminum dual quad intake...but I would want the
intake back after the season...he can keep the Weiand dual quad.

I agree Gary and I even offered to give him mine but he didn't want
to get into the engine. I now he'd love it.!!!

Rich,
With regard to Michael Harding’s amazing 65 road race car; I think he
would be light years ahead with that 284/.510” HP Poly cam in his Poly.
He is winning now with one-hand tied behind his back and I would like to see
him make the most of the Poly as it is much stronger than the 360 given equal
speed parts; iron 360 heads also crack unless he upgrades to trick aluminum
ones.

Great article. Michael Harding of Street Legal TV has done much
along the fuel tank line. He has an in tank system on his 65 Ply "Track
attack" car. That car has all the goodies. I can't believe he hasn't stepped
up to a bigger cam. He's still using the 264 hot street cam in his 318 with
his dual quad Fast EZ EFI. He is planning to change to a 360 in the
future.

My thoughts on advantages of the fuel pump in the tank is to overcome
some of the problems caused by new fuels. Access to our tanks is nothing
more than one strap holding it in place. Here is some thought to start
with.

Thank you Nick for the comprehensive list of stations and Ethanol-free
fuels with pricing. I won’t complain about our 91 unleaded “premium”
w/up to 10% Ethanol laden swamp water here in southern California.
With my vintage Mopars, I always add Lucas Fuel Treatment and TORCO
Accelerator to our fuels to protect against detonation. I haven’t had
any Ethanol issues though in over 25yrs. of driving with our fuels.
I use Carter electric fuel pumps, fuel pressure regulators, and over
1.5” of laminated hardwood spacer under my Thermoquad 850cfm carbs; keeps
the fuel much cooler than otherwise; –70F heat reduction w/laminated wood
spacers and –20F with the phenolic resin Thermoquad carburetor float
body. I will be adding a cool can, RPM Air Gap (from LD340 intake) and
cold air induction to my 340 car later this year to further enhance fuel
temps to the carburetor.
Nick, what is your thoughts on the advantage of having a fuel pump
inside the tank like new vehicles? The new cars need cool fuel to
extend the life of the pump but I would prefer the external
Carter/Holley/Mallory style pumps externally mounted for easier access on
our 50-60’s Hot-Rods.

How tough would it be to cobble up a pump onto the plate that holds the
fuel sender? But clearance could be an issue??

Gary & others,
Well most everyone knows CT. is not one of the top 10 places to live
anymore. I am not surprised at the cost of this fuel since it's always
been our normal. Back in 2002 when I bought my Fury Sunoco ethanol free
gasoline was $8.00 at the pump for Sunoco at this same Fairfield station.
What does surprise me is the low cost some of you have in other states.
Here in CT. most of our fuel arrives by ship in the port of New Haven or
Bridgeport. CT allows a destination charge from the port storage to the
dealer, ie. mileage.
This morning I checked with Pure Fuel Gas Stations and they list 14
distributors of ethanol free gasoline. I checked each of the 14 stations
and also learned that these gasoline also contains lead, which I did not
know.
Happy Mother's Day fuel prices;

Living with our vintage cars and ethanol. Again I would like to see a
conversion unit made with a reliable electric fuel pump to fit our 62-65
gas tanks making our cars as reliable as our daily drivers.
